My Sisters

My Sisters

A Poem by Jasmeen
"

Slam poetry.

"
My sister a fan of palmistry,
Told me that my fate is decided...
In these little hands all my life secrets resided.

My sister a topper in chemistry,
Told me I am just a combination of reactions...
I stared for hours & hours but could only see imperfections.

My sister now a successful nurse,
The perfect example of how a girl is an angel to the family & not a curse.
Here I am with a swollen heart and a mind that's even worse.

A heart that seems to have grown bigger,
But only I know how badly it hurts and the urge of puling the trigger.

My sister across seven seas & yet ''the best daughter''
Here I am listening to my father how 20 years ago he shouldn't have saved me in my mother's womb from the slaughter.

My other sister, a banker working hard, earning well,
Here I am consistently making my life hell.

"You are not facing anything different from the rest of the world" is the only thing everybody tells,
"I can't explain" is the only reply that I can yell.

For 15 long years you both protected me & kept me in a fancy shell.
One day you both just left & you expected me to do well ??

In this world full of problems, where nobody is truly fine, yet a sweet smile & "I am fine" are the only things that sell.

Powerful words, and full of truth! it's a real heartbreak when we realize that even our family, our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters cast us aside. For whatever reason, there are golden children and children that parents wish had never been born. Your words express it well.

Thanks @barleygirl u gave me such a detailed review. And actually I love my sisters though, this is just a way of my parents comparing me with them. Much love to you 😘😘😘😘

WOW! This feels like a harsh message from a disillusioned person. Your sentiments are similar to the way I felt when I finally realized my sisters were never really my friends all these years, even tho I assumed they were. Your observations feel like assorted disappointments that we all end up discovering in the people we misjudged along the way. I especially like this line: "I can't explain" becuz I find it impossible to raise my voice above the know-it-alls, so it just isn't worth explaining, so I walk away. This final line is a punch in the gut, it's so true about superficial people: "I am fine" are the only things that sell. I very much enjoy your realistic style of telling it like it is, but not in a whiny way, just accepting how things go most of the time (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
