Coffee For Two

Coffee For Two

A Poem by Jared Orlando

Every morning
I make enough coffee
For two.
There are placemats
On my repurposed breakfast table
Large cups on saucers
The sun burning through the blinds
Throwing diagonal lines
Upon the floor
Turning the kitchen into
A cage of light
Aloud I speak of finances
Of the drops in the trades
I mention how my parents
Are coming to visit and
I say they’d love to meet you.
Every morning
I make coffee for two
And as I’m drinking the second cup
I stare at the clock
And a picture of you overturned

Is the last line supposed to say "your" overturned? If so, then I have to use my imagination to continue your thought....

BTW, you had me at "coffee." I'm an addict, but coffee is a very social activity if you ask me. Your poem presents a very succinct picture of the desire to share coffee with a lost love...
