As Delicate As Watercolor

As Delicate As Watercolor

A Poem by Jared Orlando

I watched vicariously as you
Changed my shape as if I
Was as delicate as watercolor

Blending green tendrils of self-doubt into
Red puddles of "ifs", "maybes", into
Fanning blue depths of memory

Your paint stricken hands clinch
Eyes clamp shut, somewhere
I'll reach out to graze your lashes

You see, you created a ferocious river
Tears dissecting me in two
Muting the colors of my weary frame

A passionate throw sends
A canvas ripping through the air
My permanence extinguished

You could never keep it together
Painting clumsy scenes with clumsy hands
A collection of broken bristled brushes
