Ghosts - Incomplete

Ghosts - Incomplete

A Story by Joseph Bradford
"

A writing of thoughts

"
I feel we as humans are always chasing something. Most of the time we never truly know what it is, a feeling, a person, a dream, a passion, money, love, lust. We imagine it to be any number of these things while looking deep into our past to find what in our future will give us this completeness. Humans, in essence, are chasing ghosts. Thoughts of our past selves constantly dance through the web of our minds, possible set off by a sense, leading to a sharp image, and eventually brining us to a feeling which leads us right back to our eternal hunt for closure. Sometimes all it takes is a smell, gust of wind, the feeling of rain on a warm summer day to cast us into an alternative reality, one in which our true selves no longer exist. Once in these moments we either look for an escape or a string of this reality to latch onto. Either way, we must force ourselves to look for closure from this place. If we let ourselves get lost inside this maze we will never truly be able to move on. The seking of future endeavors, passions, and dreams through our past eyes will inevitability lead us to failure. I know this because our past is view through a lense tainted by living. I call it the "what if" lense. Looking back into ourselves we already know the outcome which undoubtedly leaves us thinking we would have made a different choice. Hunting for closure in this mindset will rewire our brains to think the past was correct and to second guess our future. Completeness is not down the path of uncertainty. It is up the steep less traveled mountain pass of living life with the ability to take chances.
