Nothing Compared 2U

Nothing Compared 2U

A Poem by Johnny A. Rojas
"

After a break up what you thought was beautiful and great because a very dark shade of gray

"

Cold cold rain is falling

Turning to slush before hitting the ground

Slippery surface not yet snow

But covering the sidewalk

I’m trying not to fall

Distant sounds filling my brain

Like an echo does to a cave

Solitude is an erection in my life

Constant beating is what happens to my heart

No wonder I ran away from you

I realized back then something

That today I tried to look over

In you there’s no future found

Only an emotion to fill the senses

Materialistic and senseless

A cold tundra of emotionless sounds

Navigating in a pale slate

Hollow emotion

Wrapped in a wonderful sculpture

Now lost I am found

Cause what I thought was clean and true

Is nothing compared to you

The sustained metaphor here is really interesting. I think you do a good job with it, and wow, the hurt under this, and the ambivalence ... stuff that's hard to find words for, but you nailed it.
