The Cold

The Cold

A Poem by Vera

The Cold

I can feel it beginning to spread

The numbness crawling through my body, through my mind

It feels dark, quenching any light left within

They don’t feel the cold, it is only in me

They don’t see the ice forming in my chest

The Cold

I can no longer see any warmth

The sun is blocked from my eyes

I begin to wonder if the warmth was ever there

The Cold

Some know of the cold, yet they don’t feel it, they can’t understand

They try to share their warmth, but as soon as it reaches me it freezes

I’m afraid they will lose their warmth because of me

I try to keep the cold only in me, yet they still see it, like a blizzard engulfing me

The Cold

I begin to wonder if this is all there is

The heavy body, the numb mind

It dulls the senses and stops any progress towards warmth

The warmth never existed, did it.

I liked the usage of the word cold here. One feels cold because of the weather and sometimes even when they don't want to express their feelings and how that coldness bothers them. Well this poem could be read by keeping both the meanings of cold in this poem and I liked this the most about it. Well written I liked it.
