⁓ A Heedless Attention ⁓

A Poem by S Jack JA
"

- an unknown consequence from a fathomless appeal -

"

Sometimes...

Care and attention

May not always result
in contemplation.

A narrow area
beside the house:

an old, abandoned pot
lay on the ground.

The soil had been left
neglected around

for months, if not years...

One day,
a gourd vine sprouted,

but its shout didn't make
quite a sound.

As days passed by,

one could witness
the climb of the vine.

Around an old wire mesh
nearby,

spreading quickly
and blooming,

soon it covered the mesh,
flourishing.

Here comes the thought:

Harvesting it for a feast

seemed driven by greed...

Some for making soup,

some for noodles' side dishes.

Motivated by desire,

time and effort were assigned.

The soil was tended,

and the gourd was fertilised.

Watering was done,

hoping for better growth
than the wild.

But...

after a few months of caring,

to the best
of what could be done,

the gourd vine withered
and shrivelled.

Why?

That was the only question
on the mind.

If the gourd had been left
to grow naturally,

wouldn’t it have flourished
more nicely?

Times and efforts,
despite good intentions,

might not have met
the gourd’s appreciation…

Isn’t it easier
to buy the needs

than to dedicate
time and effort

to obtain them.

.
