The War Rages On

The War Rages On

A Poem by JannaBanana

Kill this one kill that one
The orders are given
No care for civilians
Or the young children livin

Kill them all first
If they get in the way
Don't stop to ask questions
Don't let them delay

No matter the target
Be friend or foe
If they get in the way
Run them over! Don't slow!

50 callabar bullets
Whiz through the air
Striking on coming vehicles
Without a care

The old and the young
No one can be trusted
Don't let them slow the convoy
Or your rank will be busted

If a roadside bomb
You happen to hit
Pick up the pieces
And get on with it!

You were also a medic
While you were there
Picking up body parts
Blown in the air

The dismembered bodies
And wounded you tended
You brought them home in your head
The war never ended

The things that the higher ranks
Ordered you to do
Have haunted you day and night
The war isn't through

You were never the same
All joy in life gone
Because inside your head
The war rages on

Thank you Rob! So many vets that have experienced war come home broken. Though they appear whole one the outside, they are living a hell on the inside. I know firsthand.

Thank you for you kind words. I have enjoyed reading your poems as well! You have a great talent!
