You Said

Written quickly because of a thought that had ran through my head at the time.

"You Said"

 

You said, "I'll wait for you"

But were you telling the truth?

I asked you not to forget me

And you said, "I could never forget you"

But why?

You said, "Only you"

And I wondered why only me

But with every moment that passes

I start to understand

I know that I'll wait for you forever

I know I'll never forget you

I know now why only me

I fell in love with you

And you fell in love with me

This reads more like a conversation than a poem. Of course the idea of a poem can't be defined, but I will draw the line at 'something more than standard conversation'. Read (or have a listen to) some Andrea Gibson. She has some great spoken word poetry which could be a conversation but is somehow more.

I, too, loved how short and sweet it was. This piece captured how we learn to love someone in time. When someone loves us, we must take the time to see what they see in us and to love them for what they love in us. Great piece. I love the form and how it all came together in the end.
