Full of promises

Which I believed

How foolish of me

To fall for your lies

 

You begged me to help

I did what you wanted

Now you have let yourself down

And destroyed us again

 

I have to refuse to carry on

Although it breaks my heart

I have to be selfish for my own sanity

Farewell the love of my life, be gone.

I think all of us face this at some point in our lives, so it is something that all can relate to in this poem. Being in love, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that we still have to love ourselves and not let an unhealthy relationship destroy us in the process. You have captured this realization well.
