Winter

Winter

A Poem by JanieB

Winter

The crisp white frost upon the ground

The ice laid thick on the window sill

Listen, oh listen, but not a sound

See the breath blow, embracing the chill.

Children pulling on their mittens

Buttoning up their thick winter coats

Getting ready to head outside

Oh the smiles on their faces.

The wind gets up and the children start to cry

Their Mothers calling them from afar

Off to school they have to go

Trundling through the crispy ice.

The longing to get back out to play

Crunching over the thick frosty floor

Rolling around with great delight

Oh the winter has come, oh the winter has come.

this is fantastic! "oh the winter has come, oh the winter has come." how marvelous! this is a great poem! beautiful imagery; i love the thought of tormented children, to the point of crying because they have to go to school and can no longer play in the snow! great great write!

A love for haiku poetry developed during world literature studies, inspired by its power to express deep ideas in just a few syllables. The book Blue Harlequin features many of these moments, celebrating the simple beauty of life. And I wish it would bloody go, you make it sound so nice, even beautiful but give me a warm summers day over the grey cold days of winter. nice poem

The final line is definitely my favourite! I love how you added "the" before winter, as though it's a concrete thing- like an animal. That really did it for me.
Great job!

The simplicity of child life. You can speak in in spades.
This is that early american poetry style when the masters revelled in the glory of god.

Nice work

A perfect time to read a poem of winter joy. I love all the "oh"s of excitement and the way the poem started out rhyming and then left it all behind as if in a rush of excitement to go out and play in the snow.
