A Day In My LifeA Chapter by My Fair LadyThoughts on being a single working motherBefore the sun shows its smiling face I am well into my day Clad in crisp white apron Aromatic doughs rising By noon all is baked My case is full Fresh bread is bagged Feet starting to ache a little By Two in the afternoon I am well into my second job The day far from over Push through the nagging longing to be home On my lunch hour Rush, hurry to get the kids from school Deliver home, line out chores and dinner Four more hours... By Seven I realize I have hardly seen the sun today Hope the kids are not fighting Unsettled resentment that I have to work so much Set that aside to finish up Driving home I think about all that I accomplished Align my thoughts about what I could not get done Pray for a peaceful night Home at last My day is beyond the average I wonder how long I can keep up this charade Or if I will die young Stressed Check homework Learn about the kids' day Listen, really listen to what they are not saying In hopes they are doing ok When night comes It is short Lonely Exhausted I sip a cup of tea Wishing I could be held Loved Adored, for a little while Restless sleep I wander the empty house Pour a cup of coffee Put on an apron Roll up my sleeves and start again © 2011 My Fair LadyReviews
