Steely Grey

Steely Grey

A Chapter by My Fair Lady
"

For my mother

"

Steely Grey

The color of storms

Tepid

Isolated

Lonely

Steely Grey

The color of strength

Discerning

Blades

Rigid

The color of your eyes

Lesson Learned:

What lies behind the eyes

Is what matters more

You warm and soft

A multifaceted existence

Too colorful

Too Beautiful

Unforgettable

So we are left

To feel you

By wrapping ourselves

With your

Hand knitted blankets

Too colorful

Too Beautiful

Unforgettable

Your colorful heart saw that

We needed your warmth

So you knitted it yourself

Always looking for our colors too

Your Blinded Steely Grey Eyes

Saw that we were only

Stormy

Tepid

Rigid

Souls

Author's Note

My Fair Lady
When my mother went blind at the young age of 47 she commenced to hand knit over 100 colorful blankets for family, friends and even strangers to prepare us all for her death. When she gave this precious gift.. she always said "Here is a hug from me"

such memories are etched on the walls of loving hearts, tattooed on layers of the mind, though they hurt when made, they remain there to; return to, remember, and appreciate.
Your Author's note was an eloquent epilogue to this tenderly woven tribute.
