One Thing

A tribute piece dedicated to the strong lovers who work daily to help struggling women overcome the tragic effects of poor self esteem due to child abuse and divorce

 

The pain of my past haunts me.

There is a constant battle between my head and heart.

It is logical that I should push away those that would love me,

In an effort to protect the fragile places I guard.

 

At times I have self protected subconsciously-

never to realize the love that I might have been mine had I let my heart lead.

Sometimes not.

 

But when it comes to you

I want it,

I want a relationship,

I want to have you.

My One little secret.

My One little treasure.

One thing that makes me smile at the most unusual times.

One thing that I keep for myself to fill me up.

When everything and everyone else sucks from me,

taking from my glass.

You seem to be constantly pouring into my glass

like fine wine.

This is strong message. It could be easier reading if it was broken into "verses'. Maybe trying to clarify the past and the present and the future as three distinct parts of this piece could work?!
I can relate well with the sentiments behind the work. The content is good stuff!
