For Her

For Her

A Poem by Jane Smith

Please look to me

I can see you suffering underneath

Your strength crumbling down

Fear riding your soul beneath

Don’t turn around

I can see the tears filling your eyes

I know you’re falling now

But I will help you rise

You tell me you’re scared of the dark

You say you don’t know why

The shadows never cut you before

It began when he died

Please don’t stop now

You’ve finally opened up to me

I know it was hard for you

But life has no guarantee

The darkness only masks what’s been there before

Even at night the sun illuminates from behind the moon

The moon may cover our beacon of radiance nightly

But that doesn’t mean the sun shines any less brightly
