Lover Boy

Lover Boy

A Poem by Orphic Dreamer

“Your eyes shall illustrate momentous tales,

do not let some tragic tears to write the narratives.”

Many gazed at her meticulous beauty,

and as a boy of youthful insolence,

I was one of her admirers.

Alluringly curved lips sculpted with the finest ruddy,

Any absurd gown remains enticing with her magnificently carved physique.

An attempt to grasp her cosmic countenance through boundaries of terminology;

led to immense failure.

A naive mind of a cherubic child,

with a wild heart of a dramatic damsel

“Let thy ears listen to all pain and love.

Do not hear mere Despondent words with perils,

And ignore musicians chanting folklore of ecstasy.”

During a magical night,

With the mesmerising universe under blinking eyes,

I saw my arcane peacherino singing a marvellous song on the opposite cliff.

Her voice mystically drifted as she had taken me to the gates of heaven.

I suddenly noticed her gazing at me.

“Would you take me on your cycle, sweetheart?”

Those celestial eyes glistened bright enough to silence the stars.

We wandered o’er nubivagant valleys to lonesome thickets.

Her arms reached out to touch the moon,

We drove towards an eternal sky until the ephemeral night stood by.

Our heartstrings swirled as no words were uttered.

She was in love, I saw it in her eyes.

“Your lips must Recite words of wisdom not wail at gibberish mortals,

Who thinks of your insights as nothing less than worthless.”

Tears dared to stumble from her sublime orbs as she held my arms ever so tightly, unwilling to let go.

Our eyes recited phrases of longing no language could comprehend.

It was a desire of mine to collect pennies in a jar of fame.

The rusty bus stood waiting to take me to an unfamiliar destination

where I planned to begin a new prologue,

Yet, a glimpse at her visage would bring back an eternal nostalgia to never end this epilogue.

I left her and this little hometown of ineffable memories to achieve this delusional dream.

I was lost, she saw it in my smile.

“Underestimate my profound words;

as you haven’t walked through the thorns I have.

Destroy my ardent presents;

as you are blinded with animosity to understand what lies beyond my thoughts.

But, do not doubt my love;

For all the shards in my heart have been built for your soul to intertwine”

My ancient affection forthwith behind bars of heartfelt sorrow,

All faded recollections stimulate a stagnant emotion; remorse.

Tarnished eyes, forged thin-line smile,

youthful beauty eroded to a fatigued housewife.

A man held her hands,

While three little juveniles ran around them.

She kept a bouquet of daisies beside my jar of fame,

The pennies in it were made as ashes, ready to be buried beside me.

When all mortals grieved around my deathbed,

her eyes were hollow, I felt it in my heart.

this is a stunning read and epic love story, sad, but with some hope…. i love the language, ( victorian flow) and the mystery and the dream which ultimately ends in tragedy ; there is so much emotion in every line, the line between dream and reality ; so much love expressed, and yet not enough…
“ those celestial eyes glistened bright enough to silence the stars”;
thank you for sharing! and keep writing.,

Now, THIS is writing! I cannot pick out a favorite line because each and every line is graphic and transcending! The poetic story as a whole, though, feels magical. From the start where the author comes in contact with an idol, to the very last where that idol has kept the jar of pennies. I get goosebumps just writing this review! So beautifully performed as if the words are actors! I love it!

wow, this review made my day! Thank you so much for taking the time to read! :)
this is a hauntingly tragic love story. in a few short verses you explore the themes of longing, unrequited love, aging and our tendency to turn people into symbols of hope. our tragic hero traverses life with unmet needs and it ends in a sudden way. it's a sort of tale few dare to tell, but it is absolutely crucial we know what's happening in the world. not everybody is doing alright.

Dreams live in a very different place than real life. That's been my one regret throughout my existence in this universe. You take us through the beauty and the heartbreak of it all. She didn't cry, perhaps, because there were no more tears left. This is such an impressive rendition of joy and sorrow.

My goodness .. near takes one's breath away .. such a magnificent intro .. and which dovetails perfectly with the epic main body of what amounts to a most sorrowful love-song and corresponding lament .. what a splendid introduction to your ink .. I sincerely hope there will be more of it .. All good Things,

Neville
