I Broke this PoemA Poem by Jane MagnaniSlam pieceThis poem was meant for breaking things, Rules, limits, stereotypes. This poem was meant to break your heart and mend it in the same sentence, Poison your lungs and heal them in the same breath. They say if you break it you buy it, But I say break everything in the goddamn store, Break every rule in your goddamn mind, Then, When everything is in pieces around you, And your reflection gazes back at you in shards of memories and broken dreams, Tell your reflection you wrote this poem for it, To show that some things are better broken than they are intact, This poem was meant for breaking things, Rules, limits, stereotypes. This poem was meant to not just break the ice, But obliterate it. They say that freedom takes time, But I say freedom takes you and sweeps off your feet Flies you to the moon and back, Because who says the sky’s the limit anymore? Then, Just when you think your joyride is over, You push even farther, Breaking rules, limits, stereotypes. This poem was meant for breaking things, Like you. This poem was meant to smash you to pieces and set you free, Blow you to bits and let you go, Because the first time you let go, It won’t be your last. The first time you rewrite every sentence in the book of rules you made for yourself, The more you’ll want to write a sequel. And when they say you’ll pay for your mistakes, Say you’ll only pay in regrets. The first time you break the rules, It won’t be your last. Because some things are better broken than they are intact. © 2018 Jane MagnaniAuthor's Note
