Roses are not rare nor particularly unique. They are not fragile and they do certainly do not weep. A life cycle is short but the memory last until the next flower blooms. With the cluster of perfect little buds and the unfolding petals we hope that the edges do not brown to soon.
But what ever shall become of the thorns? Would it be a perfect flower with out the harm they can do? Do we look at the bloom and think only of it? Not the stem or the leaves or the hurt the thorn gives? A rose without thorns is just another flower. A tall and hardy stalk with a bit at the top, that fills the air with a wonderful smell. We would not be careful around them nor think to care if we pricked ourselves or in our clothes made a tear. No thought would be given if presented with these beautiful, hardy and bountiful gifts. No tragedy would strike by one little prick. We could only hope that love would flourish so perfectly as the rose without thorns.
But no, it is not meant to be. We symbolize these wonderful plants because they are so beautiful and dangerous. Just like us humans we are proud and hardy. Worried about the beauty we reflect. Trying to hide the thorns that are inside. When you reach down to pick the rose for your lover remember to be careful, for even though they are hidden the thorns are still there. And they can cause more pain than pleasure if you present them with haste.
