High School

High School

A Poem by JanMarie
"

...an observation during my stint in public school

"

Our Students are now like Withered Old Men,
self-motivation mislaid years ago.
They have forgotten ever possessing
the pulsating desire to be their best,
the compelling drive for excellence,
the never-quenched thirst for knowledge,
the inner flame fed by goals and dreams.
Their self-crippled minds are becoming gangrenous;
The Id bleeds out of an Ego unchecked,
oozing silliness and attitude and anger.
Their notion of entitlement inflates
to fill the void where once integrity grew.
Like teacher-apples left too long on the limb,
their future rots away; our future rots away
with every withered old man
we allow to roam our halls.

yes, there are some droplings in public school, but are they the majority i wonder ? is it because of the education system or is it on a more fundamental level == like home ? this poem brings a lot of wonderings to mind, and that is a very good thing when writings make us pause and question the status quo and/or our own interpretations of the world we see but never notice.

Haha. I've been one of those! It takes someone (or something) special to bring students to light, now. Inspiration, maybe. Education is so "normal" it's just kind of taken for granted.

Public school is such a waste.
(No, I'm not snubbing it, I went there, too..)
It just doesn't work...

This is a pretty good poem, though it kind of feels like it's missing something...
I don't know what...
