A midnight swim

A midnight swim

A Poem by Ben Ashelford

A tempting dip in a sea of betrayal.
Remove your clothes and swim for freedom.
Feel the ice cold water fill your very soul
driving through the waves
of contempt.

douse your mind in bitter, salt water.
feel your eyes and mind fall blind.
swallow the relentless tide of hope
drowning in a pond
of jealousy

Float upon a torrent of lies.
Against the current, survival dies.
weakening arms and legs and mind.
nothing but unforgiving left behind.
once dry.
