Ends

Ends

A Poem by Ben Ashelford

He walks by himself

alone, unafraid

treading on heart strings

so close to the grave

always so easy to miss sympathy

when termination is occupation to he.

He needs no companion

no ally nor foe

he hasn't the time

instead he must grow

allowing himself the occasional twist

of un-funny laughter when breaking a tryst.

He prays on the weak

as well as the strong

his smile returns

as soon as they're gone

he thinks of himself but a pawn in the game

his need is required, death, is his name.
