Boy in the Back Row

Boy in the Back Row

A Poem by Jamie Starlight

Teal has suddenly become my favorite color

Well, maybe it’s blue or green

I’m too afraid to gaze into your eyes and find out

The last eyes that memorized me this much were coffee brown

And I made those eyes shed tears, I don’t wanna do the same too yours

Gold hair sleeked back has become my favorite hairdo

When it frames your face you look like a divinity

I don’t believe in a divine being, but if one existed it would look like you

Something so quiet and hidden, as you are, is the image of the divine

I’m too scared to reach out, I’m not on your level

You carry yourself as a shadow, hidden in daylight

I carry myself as a sun beam, trying to be noticed

We both bathe in the darker stereotype of life

Interested in people’s minds, words, and emotions

Except I don’t know how to tell you this and you don’t seem to care
