The Grey Chess Piece

The Grey Chess Piece

A Poem by Jamie Starlight

Black and white black and white

Squares stretching systematically

Soldiers stand on squares staring each other down

Their war echoes forever

I am here, I don’t comprehend

In the midst of this struggle

I am painted grey

I have no side

They clash, black vs. white

Move by move

Their battle is a game

Relived endlessly

I screech for peace

This is mindless violence

My cries are faint

Their war chants are louder

I stand here, bleeding grey

I have no side

They’ll never end this

It’ll just go on and on...
