If only I could shuffle my thoughts as fast as a
blackjack dealer,
God knows I'm losing my mind as fast as the
poor dummies losing their money huddled around
those unforgiving tables,
The house always wins but I'm not even playing
I'm just trying to figure out what my next big move
in life is going to be and what I'm willing to lose,
So I'd better keep shuffling for now but soon I'm
going to have to cut the deck and gamble a little
bit,
I sure pray that this time my gamble is
worth the payoff, cause gambling on life and love
can really hurt in this crazy casino called life...
Agree with your thoughts.. but there again, not speaking of actual gambling but life: perhaps we have to take chances in order to discover our strengths and weaknesses. OK, there's always the chance of falling by the wayside, and, so cruel, how painful is that. But, to try climbing a mountain but only eaching the top of a hill, is better than just looking at it, surely?
Forgive me, but your finely tuned poem, the metaphorical aspect of it, immediately set me thinking and i imagine a deep thinker is satisfied by that.

Just sometimes I get it right. Fine, fine writing.
Nice. Life is a gamble, ,more times every day than we could possibly imagine. Every choice we have is gambling on the person we become, so a careless left turn here, or a double back there, and we are left thinking, is this who I am meant to be? For the most part we do a good job, but making it a great job is to know our limits and see our mistakes as what they are, errors in judgement we can learn from.
Great piece.
WOW, wonderful metaphor here, James. Yes, life is a gamble and we have many choices to make. We are the ones responsible for our own choices. Just have to hope the gamble is worth it. Lydi**
What an awesome write this is...and so appropriate for the times in which we live. Love these lines (I sure pray that this time my gamble is worth the payoff, cause gambling on life and love can really hurt in this crazy casino called life...) Indeed it can. (I'm praying with you my friend!) ~Sharon
I like the thoughtfulness and straightforwardness of your words. An entertaining read yet provoking the reader to ponder on life. There's this certain kind of soberness in your words which I'm really into.

Wow such an amazing thought process. The comparison of life with a casino and the activity of gambling left me in awe.Every bit of this poem reflects a bitter reality.Even if not playing, you are eventually dragged into the game.loved it:)
