Memories...

Memories...

A Poem by Jamestown

Make them count...

Memories...

There are times in our lives that things are meant to happen,
when they happen, and have a reason for happening

Most of the time unfortunately we don't acknowledge
that at all, many times these things happen so fast that
it's like a mist here then gone,

We have no idea that God has just stamped a memory
in our minds for the remainder of our lives,

With the ever so fast lives we live it is seemingly impossible
to know when God has licked and applied the stamp
to our hearts and minds envelope then sent to our memory bank,

Days turn into months then months to years,
then out of the clear blue sky one day a memory hits us like
a mac truck, we become completely taken aback and in my
case, overwhelmed with emotions

At that moment we will relive that memory as if it just
happened as if it were yesterday, the emotions will flood
our minds and bodies like hurricane Katrina,

When the memory envelope is opened, that memory
is stamped in our hearts and minds for good
or until God calls our names to head home, whether
that be to join him in paradise or dwell in eternal fire

So with that being said, I pray everyday that I will make great memories
to have and hold until I am summed, also to be more aware when these
potential memories are taking place and to help me appreciate everyday
to express love as much as possible and cherish everything God has done
for me, because we never know when are last memory of earth will be,

Let's make our memories count!!!

Yes, make our memories count! :)

I love how you describe the perception of memory in the first half of the poem. Your description of people's perception of memory illustrates an elusive quality that we cannot or will not comprehend in our busy lives. Then when describing God's role in people's memory the imagery becomes more tangible and physical - perhaps mirroring the idea that God has a better overview and perception of the world and us?
or perhaps it is just you being you? :) there is almost always phrase in your pieces that brings a serious matter down to earth (in a good way). This made me smile anyway

"Days turn into months then months to years,
then out of the clear blue sky one day a memory hits us like
a mac truck, we become completely taken aback and in my
case, overwhelmed with emotions "

I don't know anyone else who would write about emotions bringing a mac truck into the equation :)

And this image or idea really made me smile big, what an endearing description :D
"With the ever so fast lives we live it is seemingly impossible

Wonderfully written poem.
With a good point :)

The memories of God are the ones that the world tries to cloud and steal away from us the most important memory though is our personal testimony because the life we live may be the only bible that some folks will ever see we must walk out talk as Paul said don't only hear the word but become doers of the word

Love this. I think the only suggestion I would make would be commas. I would change the comma in the second stanza from being after gone...to being after the word "here". Same thing in Stanza 4. I would place a comma between envelope and then. Same thing in the 6th stanza. I would place a comma between "happened" and "as if it were yesterday". And again in the 7th stanza...comma between "paradise" and "or dwell in eternal fire". It's those transition words that get me and wanting to place those commas :-)

I feel like I can really relate to this, lately I've been trying to more appreciative of moments and people. I feel like I've tried so hard not to remember so much from my past because of all the bad things in it, sadly I've done to good of a job and done remember many of the good parts of it.

Anyways great piece and a nice reminder of something we should all do everyday.
