Pier Gazing...

Pier Gazing...

A Poem by Jamestown
"

Relaxing on the pier, deep in thought...

"
Pier Gazing...

As I sit on the Huntington beach pier mid-day,
with pen and paper sketching a beautiful ocean seen,
basking in the warmth of the bright sunshine and enjoying
a cool ocean breeze,

I am fixated on watching the tremendous waves,
crash violently to the sea shore, time and time again,
after a few minutes of viewing this incredible sight,
I lose myself in thought, as if to a state of hypnosis,

My mind is comparing the violent waves crashing to the earth,
over and over again to what us humans go through with our
problems on a daily basis,

I am completely in a trance, I see the effects of the waves
crashing in the same spot continuously, leaving a
substantial dent in the sand, and again think of the emotional,
dents we take in our lives with constant accruing problems,

As the waves are non-stop, sometimes it seems like our
human trials and tribulations are also non-stop and never ending,

Time has taken it's toll upon this peaceful day,
and day turns to early night,
The waves die down and the sea shore gets a break from the,
violent ambush,

As the sun sets, a soft gliding flow of constant sea water,
rolls over the large dent left in the sand and first smooths
it and then eventually completely erases it all together,

At that moment, I am fully aware of what God is teaching me today,
he is giving me a birds eye view of what he can do to our human problems,
if we ask him to help us and let him do work,

What a wonderful day pier gazing...

Sometimes, a simple look at the sea can suddenly put our chaotic lives into perspective. I admire looking at the ocean, especially from piers, because it is so peaceful and calming. No one said life had to look like war all the time, that's why God created simple things we could cherish.

Loved the comparison of emotional problems with the waves and the ultimate dent it creates.. towards the end as night sets in the poem becomes soothing. it brings upon peace of mind and a wonderful lesson along with. the lines :
As the sun sets, a soft gliding flow of constant sea water,
rolls over the large dent left in the sand and first smooths
it and then eventually completely erases it all together,

is so full of insight that it actually smooths of all thats not good.. great work :)

I found this to be an illuminating and calming write. I especially like these lines (The waves die down and the sea shore gets a break from the, violent ambush,) I know I've just stated the write was calming....and yet I note the use of words such as violent ambush. Perhaps the reader actually felt what the writer felt and not what those particular words impart? Interpretation is a matter of ones own experiences and I did enjoy reading this piece! ~Sharon

Thanks for checking it out and your kind review! I know what you mean, lol:)
B-blessed!
I love that you compare nature's struggles to human struggles using a specific example in stead of just going for more general comparisons. Much like the beginning of your 'Frozen Hearts..." poem. The image of someone who just by seeing the waves make a dent makes these associations and built on as you go to come to a conclusion wrapping op the story nicely. It could easily have had that heavy feel of over-thinking, but it reads more like a sincere curiosity/interest of the speaker for the things around him.
The general mood of the poem and flow of words is lovely. Though, not too fond of the 'that is leaving' part in this bit:"crashing in the same spot continuously, that is leaving a". Otherwise, no criticism! I enjoyed reading it :)

Do you paint a lot?

You are welcome... - Thank you for sharing this poem :)
She is the rocking wave, and she is the silence of water. I like the inspiration for this one.
Nature is always a great metaphorical mirror.

God works in many ways... sometimes we see his work sometimes we are blind to it. I love when you say he is giving you a birds eye view of what he can do to our human problems... beautiful! Great job and thanks for sharing this piece!

(Sometimes I watch the old folks; they call that "peer gazing.")
God is certainly good--and is, of course--our greatest teacher.
He is constantly showing us the most amazing things.
As your excellent poem indicates, all we have to do is be open to His promptings.
Great stuff, Jamestown!
