Can't always believe what you see...

Lying Eyes...

As we all know, we can't always believe what our eyes
allow us to see, just think of the several times our eyes
have left us feeling deceived,

Ladies- how many times has your beautiful lying eyes,
locked in on what you thought was a dream come true,
prince charming standing right in front of you,

later to find out, this man is quite alarming and
left you feeling blue,

Gentleman- how many times has our deceptive eyes,
honed in on what we thought was our future wife,

to find out later, we can't stand this woman
anymore then one night,

Our lying eyes, love to play tricks on our hearts
and minds, so much that there's been times when,
I wish I could remove them and leave them behind,

But obviously, we can't remove our eyes,
we need our valuable eyes to ease our lives,
I just wish they weren't so good, at telling lies...

Many things were said about our eyes. They are the windows of our soul. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The lust of the eyes cause man to desire the things of this world which is passing and temporary. This is a well penned piece. Some pondering about misplaced desire and how we suppose to choose our soul mate base on the way we look at their physical attributes. Can eyes see someone's true character and virtues ?

The gift of sight is a blessing that we don't recognize. Men's and women's eyes can fornicate with a single glance, and that's why one must lower his or her gaze at an unpleasant sight. It is a blessing and gift that we will be held accountable to on the day of judgement.
The eyes are the window to the soul. Sometimes, you could size someone up by just looking him or her in the eye. Some of us have kind and sincere appearances, and some you just don't feel very comfortable looking into.
Your poetry, James, touches very sensitive topics that call us to ponder upon. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Lovely ending that could even stand alone, it says it all:

Great theme that you have established in this poem and I'll have to agree with you. We can not always believe what we see with our eyes, we have to feel and think about the things around us.
