The Little Engine That Could...

This little engine comes in a small frame, but has a heart of a lion,
never quits, refuses dying,
This little engine is the epitome of the never say die attitude,
even when not in the mood,
This little engine isn't done, until she says she's done,
and very outgoing and a whole lot of fun,
This little engine has climbed the tallest mountains,
and doing so, with very little pouting,
This little engine is three men in one,
and not even a tad bit dumb,
This little engine does everything, full steam ahead,
and as a child this engine put me to bed,
This little engine I speak of is my mother,
and I tell you what, I sure do love her,
She is a true inspiration, she is always willing herself,
to her next destination,
Now mom isn't perfect, but who is in this circus,
I've seen mom derail and then prevail in the same breath,
She has always tried to keep our messed up family together,
no matter what kind of weather,
This little engine needs a break, some time to rest,
so she can again feel her best,
She needs her family, and I don't think that's to much to ask,
so mom that's my new task,
I know you feel misunderstood, but in due time it will all be good,
I love and appreciate all that you have done for us,
and with the help of God, I will fix this family, I give you my word,
a word you can trust...

This really makes me think of my mother. She wasn't perfect but damn did she have some inner strength. I watched her battle stage 4 breast cancer until she couldn't take anymore. She battled for 3 long years. She was 51 and I lost her at the age of 22. I'm only 23 now and the devastation is even worse. Never take your mother for granted my friend. Though I can tell by this tribute, that you never will. I like the message that you are taking over what you mother started as she can no longer handle the duty alone. Very nice and admirable.

my mother and I have had some very hard times, and I have not always been a good son,

I am this mans mother. I am so very sorry for your loss, it's truly a completely different world without a mother. My mother passed at the age of 43. She wasn't perfect but she was amazingly strong; 5 kids-one with asthma, one with diabetes and one deaf from rubella.

Your mother did a great job in her limited time; you got the message that my kids are grown and I'm no longer able to handle the duty alone. As grown adults, they need to make family priority so I'm passing the torch and my son is accepting my goals as his own. Not many 23 year olds are able to grasp that it a poem.

Be well... Please trust that the devastation will pass and great things are soon to come.

Honestly I'd just be happy with feeling some sense of normalcy again. It seems as though times like that are so far away, but somehow I've come through to reach this point.
