A Night Ill Never Forget by James Crotty
The clock struck eight as hundreds of teenagers piled themselves into the gymnasium, hopped up on liquor and other substances. The halloween dance, was being hosted at our school. People were dressed from head to toe in outrageous outfits, from s****y cats to togas. I wasn't dressed up. I hadn't dressed up in four years, since grade six. I hated the thought of pretending to be something your not.
The dance went by in a blur. Danced with a few girls, pumped a few fists and then suddenly people were starting to drift out the exit. The last song started up and I felt a little out of place. I mean, everybody grabbed their dates and started to slow dance. I went stag with some friends, so I didn't have a date.
I looked around, feeling a little lost, and made up my mind to go home. I turned towards the exit when all of a sudden I felt a strong tug on my left arm. I was pulled into the arms of a girl id never seen before. Two and a half months of going to school here and id never met her or seen her or even heard of her before.
I felt my heart skip a beat. This felt so real, so amazing. It was a feeling i'd never experienced before. She was warm to the touch and soft in my arms. She smelt of unknown fragrances that sent me into a partial coma. Everything around us disappeared into the darkness and I felt completely alone with this… this wonderful girl who I didn't even know. I knew if I didn't do anything I would never see her again. So I lifter her chin even with my own, and I kissed her. Time stopped for us during this moment. I felt like we were locked in an embrace for a half hour.
Then the song ended and it was over. I caught one look into her beautiful eyes and she was rushed out by her friends. Leaving me standing alone, stunned, in the centre of the gym. I bowed my head, kicked beer can that was littered on the floor, and exited with the last of the students.
I left not knowing if I would ever see this girl again. I didn't know her name. I didn't know anything really, but one thing. I'd fallen in love with a complete stranger that night. That feeling stuck with me for the days to come, but now I long for that feeling. It's no longer a feeling of love, but a feeling of sadness and days long past. I now begin to worry, will I ever feel that again?
