A Father To His SonA Poem by James WhitefallA fathers last words. You can’t go! A boy sits upon his father’s lap, And the sun sets behind them, Shining through the glass window. There will come a day son, Life demands an end, And they say the end is really just a new beginning, For someone. Watery eyes, red tear-stained cheeks, As sure as the world is spinning, I will always love you and please don’t forget, Never forget. You’re the man of the house now, You must take care of your mother, And sister, and of course your baby brother, Because you are the oldest. No one will know, For the truth is in the sacrifice, Family's the most important they say, Hope to live long enough to see it. The machines beep away, And the many wires pretend to tell a story, But it can only tell one, The flat line on a screen. © 2016 James WhitefallAuthor's Note
