ShockA Poem by James WellsAt some point my mind stopped And thoughts of all the cigarettes Lined up with all of our regrets Ceased to produce a single drop. I remember when I noticed you Mind miles away, on a distant moon One I could not discover soon Searching for what I believed was true. Question me, because I'm confused. Shock my pulse into beating once again. Show me the answer, show me the end. At some point I begin to wonder How the world turned cold When our hearts unfold. To the beat of softly crashing thunder. I remember when the bridge collapsed Our master plan began to snap Careful, quiet take out the map. Paint new lines to fill the ones I lack. Question me, because I'm confused. Shock my pulse into beating once again. Show me the answer, show me the end. I wrote you a letter, once upon a time. Dotted all the T's, crossed all the I's. The mirror caught some wandering eye. I think heaven is here, and I want to try. The future stays stuck in my mind. A fleeting thought, the perfect crime. With an ever hungering alibi. I think hell has passed, so don't you cry. If I questioned you, what would it do? But lead me here, back to my shoes. So shock my pulse into beating once again. Show me the answer, show me the end. Question me, I'm so confused. I don't want to win, and I don't want to lose. So shock my pulse into beating once again. Show me the answer, show me the end. © 2013 James Wells |
