One

A Poem by James Wells

And I will say what killed me the most was not the way you walked away.
But with the ease you had when you said you'd carry me.
I saw a chip of a tooth and a tear in your eyes.
I saw a broken ghost laid down on his side.
Took all of my strength not to call out His name.
Giving all of my pain to the spirit I'd blame.
Remember the light in my broken black lungs.
And to say quick prayer for the evil I've done.

Some might say, we're bound to live this way.
Some might feel, it's a right that we all steal.
I believe, that a shadow cannot save me.
I believe, that this world is crazy.

And I will say what I felt I should say from the moment you met my gaze.
You stood shining like a diamond in a sea of lonely.
I saw an ounce of repair in the snare of your trap.
I saw the antique heartbreak in the sound of your laugh.
Took all that I have not to cry out in my shame.
Lending all of gall and pride to His grace.
I would wonder what being built this structure.
It was carved from a love I could not muster.

Some might say, we're bound to live this way.
Some might feel, it's a right that we all steal.
I believe, that a shadow cannot save me.
I believe, that this world is crazy.

I saw the day break in the background of the porch we sat on.
Cigarettes lined with regrets as the time came and gone.
You asked a simple question in the dead of the morning.
Was it my soul or my mind that kept me in mourning.
I'd look away for I knew that I could not answer.
Just look straight ahead as I smoke my cancer.

Some might say, we deserve to feel this way.
Some might feel, retribution for what we steal.
Some might say, we're bound to live in pain.
Some might say, there is no other way.

As the night raged on and the storm fell on deaf ears.
You trusted me with each and every little fear.
But I am a thief and I'll leave you lonely.
Because I was shunned by the one and only.

I'm just looking to keep people entertained. It's important to me that I do as much as I can to give hope to the hopeless. We need it the most. But I also do say some comedic things occasionally, b.. more..
