Melancholy

Melancholy

A Poem by James McFadyen

How I feel sick
From that sweet taste
That is melancholy-
Melancholy. How such a word
sounds so temptingly tasteful
like Cantaloupe or Honeydew
That it spills from my lips with
Juicy wet sibilance.

Oh how I oft' yearn
To bite into its flesh
So that it drips with
Pensivity
So that I may whet my want
of nostalgic nectar
So that I may devour
Such bitter sweet fruits
Which leaves remnants of a rind
Hollow, spaceless shells.
That is melancholy.

Yes! I love this exploration and dissection of the word melancholy--such a hollow spaceless shell to be so powerful.

"it spills from my lips with
Juicy wet sibilance."

All poets should be lover of words!
Well done!

My pleasure.
Sometimes we enjoy savoring the bitter sweet taste of melancholy dripped in nostalgia a natural embellishment for it.
This poetry is your creativity at it's best in it's crafting and in it's imagery. Thank you for sharing it.
