Misty Midnight Eyes (Acrostic)

Misty Midnight Eyes (Acrostic)

"
Misty midnight eyes stare at empty skies
Illusions of dreams and joyful memories
Dancing on dying stars draped in purple lace
Nightly swordsman slay the moon and birth the sun
Igniting the celestial potter's furnace --
Gathering clay turned on wheels of polished stone
Hearts delicately smoothed by crafter's fingers
Together burn in the light of a nova

The first two lines seem to convey what is unknown to the eyes. The rest of the poem reveals what's really going on out there. I think this poem goes a lot deeper than what may appear at first glance if read too fast without paying attention. It really is a great little poem with even greater images of another world.

I never studied any kind of writing but you seemed to have accomplished just what you set out to do. I like the ideas I got reading the last 4 lines. Valentine

Dying stars will be the nurseries of the future and we carry the dead with us, in us.
Very skilfully crafted piece.

It is good to try various style of poetry. Not only have you written a beautiful Acrostic but you have indeed painted a wonderful picture with your words.

Mystical and awe-inspiring. It opens the mind up. Thank you for introducing me to an unfamiliar style of poetry. Brilliant!

Nicely done, James! I've never attempted the acrostic form before, but I really liked the cosmic feel you gave this.

Wonderful acrostic. Loved the celestial references. "hearts delicately smoothed by a crafter's fingers".....such a sensual line evoking tenderness. The imagery is stunning! Lydi**

Thank you, it's the hardest thing I've written, I'm glad you liked it.
This seems to be a poetic departure for you, as this is written in more of a formal, metaphorical way. I like the construction, love acrostics, especially when they flow without attention to the mechanics of your efforts (as you've done here). I'm not sure if all your metaphors sing the same chord here, but maybe I just need my 2nd cup of coffee to fire up my imagination a little better.
