Honored Guests

Honored Guests

A Poem by James
"

I know, I should have a better attitude.

"
Obligatory dinner,
a banquet for the bosses
to honor themselves
and throw a few scraps
to the underlings.
So unnecessary,
but thoughtful,
in the way a mother pig
allows the runt to tag along,
not caring if it lives,
or dies.
I love looking around the room,
all the piglets scrambling around,
fighting for a teat.

The seating arrangement
is the same as last year,
the favored up front,
the second tier;
Kneeling,
in reverent contempt.
The rest of us are allowed
to watch from a distance
and eat in order of rank;
silently hoping
we go unseen
and survive another year.

P.S.
All time must be made up
at the earliest convenience.

Laughing, though shouldn't at the postscript, mainly because tis true!

You have an acute eye, see situations and the people therein so very well.. and you write what you see with fine free verse that reads 'story' but is scented with meter. Status lives even in the sty or, should that be stye. .

Thanks. It's a sucky feeling, but I guess that's life in the trenches.
So the world in order, work and upfront lines to crack the whip as so many others have to feed to survive.Life is one big pig farm, waiting to eat away our lives;- Nice write

Sometimes it seems that way, just one big pig farm. Thanks for the read, and good to see you again.
