The temperature reached nearly a hundred today. Not uncommon for the coast this time of year, but today seemed hotter than the usual June Scorcher. There wasn't a breeze today, that must have been it. Days like this were never much good back home; too hot to work outside, too dry even for the weeds to grow. Momma would hang laundry on the line, but with no wind it just hung around like everything else there; adding to the misery of the southern summer heat. I got a couple of deadbeat uncles, this is their kind of weather alright. Shoot, any kind of weather is their kind of weather, they ain't going out in it anyway. Don't know why I decided today to think about them probably because I'm feeling like a deadbeat myself in this heat. Ain't no way I'm getting anything done.
I must not be southern enuf, becuz this didn't read as snappy as your writes usually do! *smile* I like your sassy authors note, however! I'm definitely relating -- the way I feel like a slug on these 100+* afternoons, so the deadbeat uncle business is definitely the strongest aspect of your message. The reason this doesn't ring as true as your writes usually do is becuz it's not chock full of all the specific various ways a deadening heat can zap people . . . for example, I'm picturing the laundry-hanging being abandoned mid-way and hanging willy-nilly becuz the clothespins ran out (whereas your "just hanging there" doesn't have your usual punch!) I guess you're just too hot & lethargic to get your usual groove on in this one! *smile*

I guess so, I'm not feeling this one either. In fact, I haven't been feeling it for a while. This .. read moreI guess so, I'm not feeling this one either. In fact, I haven't been feeling it for a while. This was a forced write. Here lately, I've felt like a deadbeat writer just punching keys. Thanks for reading, I always enjoy your cometary and your honesty. I'm pretty sure the authors note was the best part (and the most fun to write). Thanks again.
You know, I almost deleted this because i didn't think it was any good.
