Deterioration

Deterioration

A Poem by James William Dyer
"

This poem is about procrastination, and how things fall apart during periods of deep depression.

"

Unfinished.

Lines of procrastination frame my bedroom

in the corners where I peeled off the painter's tape

days ago. Lines of white around flat blue.

A mangled light socket, gutted wires.

Depression hangs thick in the kitchen

where old fan blades stir quiet air.

Drywall fastened against the studs,

    rows of screws still exposed,

    tries to conceal something older,

                            falling apart.

Broken toy firetruck, toy ladder, toy soldier

    bungled, silent, and still

    beneath the kitchen fan.

Silence. All the way through the walls.

The bare walls of my house

    become null;

The silenced curtains,

     stripped from their windows,

     crumpled            butchered

     on my hardwood floors.

Tomorrow I will fix this.

As the worlds worst procrastinator I can say I appreciate the "tomorrow I will fix this"... lol Your way with words is fresh and exciting. Your great descriptive power pulls the reader in and keeps them there..x

~ ah... you turned an excruciating emotion into a beautiful piece of poetry... the description is almost as if it was seen through a camera... brilliant detailing... and... the last line is brilliant beyond brilliant... it's spectacular... i've started "fixing" things in my own life so i know the feeling...

Sadly so true, in putting things off for another day. I still go through periods of similar episodes just like this, even now some things need to be done or fixed. But like your last statement " tomorrow I will fix this" seems to ring true- for there will always be another day to get things done. Very well put James, good job!

I began writing when I was in the fourth or fifth grade. We were extremely poor and my mother had purchased an old typewriter from a yard sale for me, tired of trying to decipher my mangled handrwitin.. more..
