My Lady

My Lady

A Poem by James Mayfield
"

Poe-esque I hope

"

My lady stands in the night

Amidst the early winters chill

Staring faithfully to the stars

To her chest she clutches

A worn and weathered tome

It's pages long lost to time

But she remembers

She remembers lines of hope

And of sadness

Of prophecies long lost

She remembers times of love

And the lack thereof

This book she clutches

To her bosom tightly

As ivy climbs her steady form

The book of her life

Her forgotten memoires

She holds in keeping

Until the ivy

Claims them both

You've drawn a very fine picture with well chosen words. And I think this picture is going to stay with me for a long time.

The book of her life

Her forgotten memoires

She holds in keeping

Until the ivy

Claims them both

The ending is superb.
I really liked this one. Lots.

This was hauntingly beautiful... there is something magical about statues with ivy growing on them, almost as if the earth is trying to reclaim some forgotten knowledge which is exactly what you wrote about. Great write.

A very good write. I think you should find someone to replace long lost to time. If you use it once you seldom need to use it again. In a piece like this it seems cheapened a little because of the repeated phrase. Is it really necessary at all? However, you do have a very powerful ending and your imagery is very well crafted. Overall it was a very good write.

This paints a vivid clear picture. I do so love Poe. He's one of my favorite poets. You've done his style wonderfully.

Very descriptive. I think I might have seen something similar to this. Love the flow of this work. Quite nice!

This is very good - I felt the ivy surround and twist. Good images and such great use of sparse amount of words to give a great story. Very Poe-like! You can just feel the sadness and loss.... excellent work!

I will send one of mine your way that has the same kind of feel to it.

Very Poe-etic ending, if I may be allowed the pun. ;-) Worthy of Poe and true to his style. Just enough flourish to make this elegant but not overly done. Excellent.

I like this alot- though it did lack the "creepy" edge that is so Poe-esque, it is a good write I would love to see it expanded- you have down a wonderful job at describing. The imagery is so eloquent it is a little haunting. Good Work!

Ah I thought this was a refrence to the great master of macabre. I think this is a piece that he would have been proud of. It reminded my of Ana bell lee in a way. Well done piece.
