MonsterA Poem by JakoblewisI used an AABB rhyme scheme for this one, also didn't keep track of iamb, though it's meant to be more of a free poemThere's a monster in my closet Though my father said "get over it" You can't even check for me? It's a waste of time and energy Couldn't bother when he drank all night Just to come home to fight A mother who only wanted to protect her son What does that make you? Less than a person One night she had enough Thought you called her bluff Until she reached for the door You screamed "shut up, w***e!" That's when your one hand Changed the man I am She took one too many blows to the head I saw when she bled and your dread When you sat on my bed I knew she was dead "Mom's left" you said You expect me to believe a woman like she would just up and leave? So I became her surrogate I become the one to hit I became the one to plan I became the vengeful man There's a monster in your closet, dad He's black-clad Finally free It's me © 2015 Jakoblewis |
