Gabrielle

Gabrielle

A Poem by Edmond Dantes

Gabrielle
Oh, sweet
Mademoiselle
You float
Gracefully
Down the aisle
So well
In your wedding dress
Towards I
With the bells & the doves
All eyes are on you
I could cry
If you happened to catch
The train of your dress
Dragging endlessly behind you
And fell-
Oh, well . . .
I wouldn't be upset
What I see
Beneath the facade
Is a w***e
Wrapped tightly
By the hem of a garment
What I see is an outline of a
Handprint
Imprinted
Upon your inner thigh
And stained
Reminisces
Of kisses
Upon your neck
The likes of which-
Did not leave MY LIPS!
Last chance-I can still get away
If any man or woman believes that these two beloveds should not be brought together before God today in Holy Matrimony, speak up now or forever hold your peace.

this is so incredible! im not sure how to really explain it..honestly, i didnt even like it until i finished reading it..actually, i strongly disliked it until i finished. Then out of nowhere it was like, a rush of appreciation. I really dont know what it is, but this poem is truly incredible. I can see this piece in a monologue of sorts..It would be so difficult to act, but so incredible if done correctly, the climax is especially exciting. I absolutely love this poem!

I think this is quite lovely. It describes a lot of feeling and it's very elegant. The only thing I would change is the mention of a wedding dress - I think you should say it's a white dress and add more implications that it's a wedding. Just a personal preference.

'Handprint

And stained
Reminisces
Of kisses
Upon your neck
The likes of which-
Did not leave MY LIPS!'

Betrayal is a recurring nightmare - the images never go away.
How sad.
I just realized that when partners cheat, while guys think of the hands that have touched their loves, girls think of the way their men touch the other.
If I were writing this feeling the same emotions there'd be lines like 'your hands on them' and that sort of thing.

Anyway, it's a real and sad. The voice of a broken heart.

And also a mini mind movie!

Thanks for sharing, E.D.

I wish I would have listened to that voice that told me to run, before I made that mistake.

Sad but totally underestandable.
Great read!
