In mind I walk down a thousand garden paths
With a thousand roses and sunflowers too
Im wearing an impeccable white 1920s tailored suit,
Jay Gatsby couldnt touch it
So clean that youd have felt as if you just stepped out-
Of a bath drawn for you by three beautiful maidens
As I approach you I begin to walk slower,
Your beauty is stunning
The way the Sun is glistening off your skin
Ears, nose, and lips to precious to touch
Aww-but to kiss, now thats heaven!
I pick a sunflower and hand it to you
But your whole being is breathtaking,
And my heart begins to pump uncontrollably fast
Aww-it hurts! I must look away!
I run over to a marble bench gripping my heart
I take a drink from the fountain
Before I look up, I see your shadow-I am now scared
You approach me sitting on the bench with my head down
As I look up a tear runs down my face
You ask me why am I crying?
And I tell you, Because I love you.
There are three ways to read this poem, an eye read, a read aloud, and a performance read.
I liked this piece well enough as an eye or read aloud piece, but although beautiful and tender, as it is it seemed a bit ordinary I did a performance read and holy cow! Did it come alive!.
This is MOST DEFINITELY A PERFORMANCE POEM!!!!
Very well done and I hope to hear it performed soon.
this is very beautiful! Wow, and right after i considered that you would do well with some gatsby inspiration. Great job, i love it! And it's also got a little bit of a gatsby feel to it..the diction reminds me a lot of F. Scott Fitzgerald.
