Halloween

Halloween

A Poem by Jake Walcott

It was Halloween and we had become the ghouls we’d always feared.
I, a vampire
You, a ghost
You moaned that I looked right through you
I stared into your eyes and saw the reflection of the bright orange tips of our cigarettes
Clearer than starlight, but I could not see myself
I said you were wrong and kissed you anyway
It was Halloween and we were both wearing masks
