I know why

I know why

A Poem by Jake Staffeld
"

This has become my new favorite write of mine. This came from a very personal place, but I felt I couldn't keep it to myself.

"

The sky burns

High above this burned out land

Through the smoke the sun is orange

Like flames eating away the sand

The view radiates

Passion and terror

With a sense of finality

Unmatched elsewhere

As I watch you all

Pretending to be lemmings

I mourn my work

This purpose I have

I know now why

It is the eagle flies

I know now why

The trees reach for the sky

Watching vultures

Carrying carrion

To new heights

The likes of which can't be found any other way

I have seen it all before

A thousand times and a thousand more

Through lidded eyes

That can see but not be seen

Observing a subtle dance

A lifes work gone awry

A lucky fool getting his chance

To capture all the lies

The colors wash out

Nothing can hold them back

Entropy always wins in the end

Chaos is the only creation

I know now why

The eagle flies

I know now why

Trees reach for the sky

Escape can't be found

You can not run

No matter how hard you try

I am always waiting

It pains me

To do my job

To escort those

Who have found the end

This is a dark place

I have been here so long

I can't recall the light

If I ever saw it to begin with

I hide for all your life

Providing a guiding light

When you draw close

I finally become clear

I know now why

The eagle flies

I know now why

Trees reach for the sky

They are reveling in what they have

Before they no longer can

Waiting for the day

I come to help them across a river made of sticks

The poem is amazing. I like the many good examples and story in the poem. I like the places you took me with your words. I did a lot of Eagle and Hawk watching in my free climbing days of California and Texas.. To watch them fly you learn what freedom can be. So many powerful lines in the poem.
"I know now why
The eagle flies
I know now why
Trees reach for the sky"
Thank you for the outstanding poem.
