Self Inflicted

Self Inflicted

A Poem by Jake Staffeld

I have a darkness inside me
It manifests in my violence
I hope you never see
These things in my silence
That betray my hatred

It's hard to control
Pain can only slow it
It's deeper than the soul
I don't quite fit
Because it makes me different

I've done it before
I'll do it again
The destruction is my core
I'm killing what I've been
Against my will

This impulse takes over
I have to hurt
Grab your four leaf clover
Hope I don't die in my effort
To make sure I'm the only one destroyed

If it isn't me it's you
On the receiving end
These facts are sad but true
I've shown a consistent trend
Towards unchained rage

I just can't cope
With the world's s**t
I ran out of hope
In one apoplectic fit
When I first found self infliction

Wow this is a very masculine write, I quite enjoy the intensity. These lines really appealed to me:

1. Grab your four leaf clover
Hope I don't die in my effort

Quite poetic! bravo.

Strong words a lot of emotion in this poem. Life can twist us up and leave us wanting little. I believe need to go forward and not allow the world to slow you down. A lot of ways to inflict pain and hurt. No weakness in this poem. Just strong words in the excellent poem.
