Rock Artists

Rock Artists

A Poem by Alice Bliss

Two-dimensional beasts dance along the rock-face:
the beasts that graze,
the beasts that fly,
the beasts that hunt,
the beasts they showed their children to be fearful of.

Primordial pigments faded over millennia.

We learn of a life focused on survival,
when entertainment was listening around a fire.
No writing to record their thoughts—
only these images show us a glimpse of their minds.

People shrinking further into the past as we speed forward,
fading like their painted animals,
graying in our imaginations,
gradually forgotten.

well, your anthropology side is showing.
I liked this poem.I liked how it doesn't come right out and say what it is about...
you have to read between the lines.
glad your writing again..
