The World Drops Dead

The World Drops Dead

A Poem by Phoenix

I shut my eyes and the world drops dead.
I open them and it breathes again.
I colored the sky with gold and red.

Dreams of bewitching into bed.
With songs of moons and oceans and forever again.
But you only live inside my head.

I shut my eyes and the world drops dead.
I open them and its heart beats again.
"If only, if only," she still said.

A heart grows hungry when left unfed.
Bleeding its tears once and again.
But you only live inside my head.

I shut my eyes and the world drops dead.
I open them and it screams again.
I reached out as you turned and fled.

I took your hand as you led.
I searched for your eyes again and again.
But you only live inside my head.

I shut my eyes and the world drops dead.
I cover them to never feel it again.
I shielded my wounds as I bled.

I shut my eyes and the world drops dead.
I still see it over and over again.
But you only live inside my head.

Author's Note

Phoenix
First, I have to give credit to Sylvia Plath. I just finished her book The Bell Jar, and at the end it had her poem Mad Girls Love Song. I used three lines that are very similar to hers, and this poem was inspired by it.
This is a story Ive written before, but its only because I still see it over and over again.

Very mysterious and very interesting, I read this a few times and have to say, I really like it. Its almost as if the world doesn't exist when the persons eye's are closed.

This poem reminds me of lyrics to a song i know.....the title is escaping me but the idea of it all just being in your mind is intense and fascinating. The way it rhymes and flows is superb! This is the type of work I expect from someone as talented and gifted as yourself.

Okay, one, not only did I love your poem but I loved the style you used, too. It's always nice to try something new or experiment with different styles of writing. And hey, if you never did then you'd never have this amazing poem. Very nicely done.

I have so many ideas and feelings, and they usually buzz around inside me wildly. When I can gather up enough of them, then a piece of writing emerges and I feel refreshed. more..
