![]() DarklingA Poem by Phoenix![]() An adjective for a word that does not exist.![]() ...And how to fight that awful fact?
That beauty.
That pain.
That truth that keeps my soul intact.
That sun.
That moon.
That being of my unending doom.
It’s clear.
It’s vague.
It’s missed with every blink.
It’s desperate.
It’s hungry.
It’s in every thought I think.
It’s dreams.
It’s nightmares.
It’s in the shadows on the wall.
It’s power.
It’s strength.
It’s there to catch me when I fall.
It’s ecstasy.
It’s torture.
It’s laughter.
It’s tears...
...And how to withstand this unendurable pain?
This feeling.
This sight.
This creature in the corner, beaten and lame.
This courage.
This hope.
This heart.
It’s consuming all, with an uncontrollable flame.
...With lips that grin and eyes that burn.
My blessing.
My curse.
My death.
My life.
My darkling...
"My little beast, my eyes, my favorite stolen egg. Listen. To live is to be marked. To live is to change, to acquire the words of a story, and that is the only celebration we mortals really know. In perfect stillness, frankly, I've found only sorrow." © 2009 PhoenixAuthor's Note
