I Never Write PoetryA Poem by PhoenixI really don't - ever. And yet, I'm writing poems and showing old ones that I had thought happily would never again see the light of day. And now I'm ironically writing a poem about not writing poems...
I never write poetry. Though your words do flatter me, I never really have the drive, Even when I tend to strive To get things out there, All the things I need to share... All those things I've carried That have long since been buried. I've already written a thousand words, Even though the pen has not heard.
I never write poems. Only when my insides spill over, And my heart runs for cover. But as I continue to rhyme, I realize that didn't happen this time. I'm not sure what this is about - All the words are just coming out. Who knocked down the floodgate? Not me, I was too late. Whoever it was, I thank you - You did what I could not do. I think I'm free now, and can hardly believe it, It's just too bad only the paper's here to see it. © 2008 PhoenixAuthor's Note
