The Test was Horrible/The Book is Old

A Story by Phoenix
"

A class assignment where we had to write a descriptive paragraph about the title without using the actual words in it. Also dug up from middleschool.

"

The Test was Horrible

The girl sat there with her hand drooping over the table. Her head lay slumped to one side as though she were sleeping. Her hands kept clicking the pen she held. Everything around her was humming with anxiety, even though the room was silent. The words in front of her looked hazy, and her eyelids seemed to pound every time she blinked. Her head was clogged, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't think of anything.

The Book is Old

Something caught his eye as he walked past the shelves. He looked at it curiously; it was different from the others. Then he picked it up gently, the cover felt soft and worn. At first it looked grey, but then he noticed it had once been green. The corners of the book were frayed and the spine was loose, and nowhere on the cover could he find a title. He opened it carefully and heard the pages crackle. They were yellow and rough and smelled like dry leaves. He went to sit in a chair and began reading.

It was fun and challenging to describe something without saying what it actually was. Too bad we don't have assignments like this in school anymore.

Cool! Writing ABOUT things rather than just plain writing them is probably the best way to practice imagery. This is a great example and you did an excellent job with. You've been pretty talented at writing for quite a long time now that I think about it. :) I think I remember you talking to me about that assignment. :/

I definitely love "The Book Is Old". It's so descriptive and holds a lot of reality and truth about aged books. lol Great job!

I liked it alot. You used enough imagery to get the object across, without the title. Positively excellent.
