What Was It Like?A Poem by FloppWhat was it like? - inspired by real war eventsWhat was it like? I remember what it used to be like, Little children running in fear, Violence and abuse was everywhere, So I set off on a hike, To find peace and happiness, Instead I got into a mess.
I remember what I did then, I became a soldier with lots of other men, To kill our fellow creatures, We became crushers. I didn’t want to do it, But I had to or they would’ve thrown me in a pit.
I remember how they used to scream, I wished it was a bad dream, We used to shoot and blow, To get rid of “the foe”, But we didn’t have an enemy, Our enemy was ourselves… It was me
I remember what I used to say “Was it worth it to kill and slay?” “Why is war winning and Ruling like a king over the living?” © 2015 FloppAuthor's Note
